Summertime. My head is full of lyrics and melodies. The sort of consistent inspiration that has me pulling off to the side of the road to write ideas down, and keeping a notebook or journal near while I sleep, in case an idea pops up and longs to be remembered. Production ideas abound, as well. My heart is in a bit of flurry... a cocktail of warmth, fear, hope, love, chills, joy, sorrow, protection. Surely at such times of emotional fullness, I am grateful for the music in me, having the creative outlet. However... my studio isn't currently set up... These comforting expressions moving through me need their voice, and sometimes I ache when not able to lay them down.
Checking out a lot of new music via Soundcloud is helping the inspiration along. So much great music out there, so many voices in the chorus :) Getting great feedback also adds to my desire to lay down tracks... validation and encouragement go a long way. This year has been great further proof of that. I look forward to what pours forth when the technology is in place.
While I have been doing a lot of heavy layering and production on most of the music I've made in the last few years, I now long to pare down to essentials. Many of my recent ideas are simple, often for just 2 instruments. Piano and voice, guitar and voice, etc... with the focus being on the performance, and production. One of the lyric/melody ideas that came fast and happy recently is an Irish drinkin' song. Thinking on how to pull that off, authentically. Get some friends together, couple of mics, a piano, and plenty of Guinness and whiskey.
