Today, a friend posted a link to a monarch butterfly welfare site. Monarchs are enchanting! I was inspired to post this, which happens to be the lyrics to the second song I ever wrote & recorded (not on my own, re: the recording - in a friend's studio, before I had my own). Wish I had a copy ready... don't have this baby in digital form yet. The lyrics:
Have you seen the black and orange monarch?
On succulent milkweed they graze.
In ancient sun they gather in millions and
perk up in storm's smoky haze.
I used to catch them in nets as a child when they
gathered amok in my yard.
Run fast & jump higher! Their movement's like fire, and
catching the monarch's quite hard.
Go! Find Mexico, south a bit further,
your lifespan is only 6 weeks,
but I'll see your grandchildren this time next year,
once again, when the ancient sun peaks.
Ancient Sun
On succulent milkweed they graze.
In ancient sun they gather in millions and
perk up in storm's smoky haze.
I used to catch them in nets as a child when they
gathered amok in my yard.
Run fast & jump higher! Their movement's like fire, and
catching the monarch's quite hard.
Go! Find Mexico, south a bit further,
your lifespan is only 6 weeks,
but I'll see your grandchildren this time next year,
once again, when the ancient sun peaks.
